Secondhand September (Part I): OFG’s top 10 thrift/reuse shops in Austin
Howdy fellow Austinites,
Organized For Good is celebrating Secondhand September by sharing our top 10 favorite places to shop for pre-loved items!
This year, we’re honoring our beloved city of Austin, TX, where a bustling culture of upcycling, thrifting, and slow fashion thrives. Wait, what? You’ve never heard of Secondhand September?! To recap, Secondhand September is all about dipping into the local scene of pre-existing goods (clothes, accessories, furniture, home goods, and hobby items). As you probably know, the most sustainable way to shop is buying things that aren’t newly manufactured. They’ve been around the block (maybe a few times), and that just makes them more cool, more unique, and more exciting to stumble upon.
Shopping secondhand first helps reduce waste and ensure that local resources are put to good use for a longer time.
This September, make your goal to see what you are able to shop secondhand first rather than buying things new.
And don’t worry, once you’ve perused our list below, you’ll have plenty of amazing options. Not to mention that many of these stores operate as non-profits and benefit worthy causes in the community. We’ve outlined our personal favorite destinations to donate, shop, and score really cool finds.
